Grape Secret Sauce is truly sweet…
Make this secret sauce as we glide into the heated season. It has no sugar added and so is a healthy snack or liquid breakfast! The basic version marries grapes and frozen blueberries with spices and just a little water, all cooked quickly. Create the basic sauce blended with a milk (cow or plant-based). Or decide to jazz it up a bit for a lovely smoothie (without ice).
Summer’s Burning Thirst
Natural fresh and frozen fruits contribute to controlling the heat experienced in summer season. One reason this lifestyle quells heat is that no sugar is added. A mild sweetness, the taste we get from fresh fruits, is one of the 3 tastes—sweet, bitter, astringent—that are best in summer’s heat.
Red Grapes, especially the smaller ones, might seem tart, but they release undeniable sweetness if cooked, briefly.
Grape-Blueberry Low-Sugar Secret Sauce for Drinking
Red Grapes, the delicious summer fruits are the basis of this secret sauce–soon to be no longer secret! A super-easy method of blending fresh fruits that have been cooked just for 5-15 minutes yields a low-sugar alternative to not-too-sweet drinks.
This recipe is truly easy and should be carried out with a free hand. You can’t go wrong with proportions as they should be adjusted to your taste.
Ingredients:
1 handful Red Grapes
filtered water
1 small coin of ginger root (or spices, see below)
1 handful frozen blueberries, or 1/2 apple, sliced
1/3–1/2 cup, or to taste, milk (anykind) or herbal tea
Method:
De-stem the grapes. Wash and add to a wide pan, and surround them with filtered water—not too much.
Add 1 small handful of frozen blueberries, if using (or the sliced apples), and a coin of ginger root (sliced to 1/4 inch or less from the fresh root). Other spices will work instead of ginger, such as Cinnamon, Cardamom or Clove Bud. Measure out ¼ teaspoon of a ground spice, and add to the fruit in the pan.
Cook the Fruit. Turn on the heat and allow the fruit—grapes and blueberries—to come to a boil.
Then turn heat down to simmer for 5 minutes, or until grapes puff up and soften.
Pull off the heat, cover and allow to steep as it cools down.
When cooled, pour the contents of pan into a blender. Add one or two ounces ofmilk (any kind). I usually choose almond milk, or coconut beverage (has less fat than coconut milk). You can also add a bit of water, if after blending, the mixture is too thick.
Blend on high until smooth, or to taste. Serve! Or, refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
Grape-Blueberry Low Sugar Secret as a Smoothie Base:
After cooking the fruit and cooling it, pour into the blender. Add 1/2 banana per each 2-cup serving, 1 handful of raw spinach, and 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon each of ground spices to your taste. Choose from cinnamon, ginger, and allspice. Enjoy this healthy treat!
