Ayurvedic Herbs: A Clinical Guide to the Healing Plants of Traditional Indian Medicine/ by M.S. Premila. Published by The Haworth Press, 2006. Appendix and Index.
Dr. M.S. Premila’s book offers clinical evidence of the efficacy of herbs as agents of health and well-being. Her panel of nearly 70 herbal monographs are nestled individually with descriptions of the bodily systems they are most specific for, such as the gastrointestinal, circulatory, respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, musculoskeletal and nervous. She includes chapters on gynecology, diabetes, aging, and the eyes. Of help to clinical practitioners are extensive footnotes to each chapter in which detailed citations support claims made for herbal actions as they are generally known.
A majority of the herbs are mainly known in Ayurvedic medicine and thus represent themselves alongside herbs more familair in the West such as Ginger.
See my post Yoga, Ginger and Garlic for an explanation terms used for botanical names.
